In Memory

Sammy Moore

Sammy Moore died on the first day of 2018.

Sammy graduated from Jenkins High School in 1969 and went on to attend college at both the University of Georgia and Armstrong State University. His richly varied work history included several years as an orderly in the emergency room at Memorial hospital and a stint as tool pusher and tug pilot with Diamond construction. Beginning in the late 1970’s he began work on the Offshore Mercury oil rig as a painter and advanced to a position as ballast control officer, a station he held on several different offshore rigs in the North Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico before eventually settling into a career as a safety official with Transocean oil company in Houston, Texas. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Isle of Hope fire department. In retirement Sammy took up photography and soon began to post and print potent imagery of Georgia’s coastal environment, centered on his beloved Isle of Hope.
